Service Projects!
One of the principles of Alpha Phi Omega is to Be of Service! Therefore, Alpha Zeta Lambda takes part in community service projects in the four types of service; national, campus, community and fraternity.
Organizations we work with!
YMCA
Tween Night:
Once a month, we work with the staff at the YMCA to host a Tween Night. Local children between the ages of 9-13 come to the community center for dancing, snacks, basketball, rock climbing, and various carnival themed activities.
Family Fun Night:
Every other month, Head Start puts on a Family Fun Night. Brothers of AZL attend to help with art and crafts, serving snacks, face painting, and other various projects.
YWCA
Safe Halloween:
Every year, Omega Phi Beta, a multicultural sorority on campus, hosts the event the Saturday before Halloween. AZL volunteers at the event by creating a craft or game to do at the event.
Limehollow Nature Center
Trail Clean Up:
In the fall and spring seasons, AZL helps with trail clean up so visitors to the nature center can enjoy the trails and the nature that Limehollow has to offer!
Creatures of the Night:
Around Halloween, Limehollow hosts an event entitled Creatures of the Night. Brothers of AZL help with craft projects and other activities that are at the event.
Cortland Youth Bureau
Easter Egg Hunt:
Every year around Easter, the CYB hosts an Easter Egg Hunt and the brothers of AZL help the staff of the CYB to hide the eggs around a local park. Families come and hunt! When the hunt is over, the brothers of AZL get to find the rest!
Polar Bear Plunge:
In the winter months, the CYB collaborates with United Way to host their annual Polar Bear Plunge at Yaman Park. Brothers of AZL mostly help with crowd control, but some brave souls have the opportunity to also jump in the man-made lake!
Project Linus
Blanket Making:
Every semester, the brothers of AZL make fleece blankets that are donated to the national organization, Project Linus. This organization gives the homemade blankets to children in local hospitals while they are there for various treatments and illnesses. When the children leave, they can take the blankets with them!
Relay for Life
Every year, SUNY Cortland has a Relay for Life event that raises money for the American Cancer Society. Brothers of AZL participate in fundraising for the team competition and we also have a table or booth at the event that also raises money for the American Cancer Society.
Patchwork of Power
Twice a semester we create quilts to raise awareness for different causes. People around campus sign patches of fabric that are then attached to a sheet to show their support. We have done quilts for breast cancer, autism, sexual assault awareness.
And Many More!
